Rabe/Novi Sad, 31 May– President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, Juhász Bálint, attended today’s official opening ceremony of the tripoint border between the Republic of Serbia, Hungary and Romania, organised by the Danube–Criș–Mureș–Tisa Euroregion Regional Cooperation (DKMT).
In line with a decades-long tradition, the DKMT organises the opening of this border on the last Saturday of May each year, as a symbol of strong cooperation and friendship within the DKMT network, in the presence of the highest officials from the DKMT region.
Following the ceremony, President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, Juhász Bálint, emphasised the importance of the border crossing between Rabe and Majdan, opened in 2019, highlighting that borders should not serve as barriers, but rather as points of connection.
“The tripoint is the best example of how important it is for borders to be open and accessible. The opening of the crossing has brought concrete benefits to the residents of Rabe and Majdan, which also demonstrates how significant it would be for Serbia to become part of the Schengen Area, just as Romania did on 1 January,” said Juhász. He added that it was in all our interests to further open and adapt the borders between Serbia, Hungary and Romania to meet the needs of the citizens.
Juhász recalled that joint projects had been successfully implemented within the DKMT Euroregion for three decades and
emphasised that natural phenomena such as drought and watercourses did not recognise borders. He pointed out that joint cooperation in cross-border projects was of essential importance for all parties involved.
The ceremony was held at the “Triplex Confinium” monument (the tripoint), a stone border marker at the tripoint, which stands as a powerful symbol of the complex history, cultural diversity and intensive cooperation between the three countries. The event featured speeches by Provincial Secretary for Regional Development, Interregional Cooperation and Local Self-Government, Aleksandar Sofić; the DKMT Chairman and Vice-President of the Bács-Kiskun County Government, Maka Kornél PhD and President of the Timiș County Council, Alfred Robert Simonis.
As every year, a rich cultural and sports programme was organised, including a symbolic race in which participants from the three countries—children from the three neighboring villages of Rabe, Kübekháza and Beba Veche—took part, after which they were awarded prizes.
