President of the Assembly

The President of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina is Pásztor István. He was elected the President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly at the first session held on 31 July 2020.

He is a member of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians political party and a member of the Deputies' Group "Vajdasági Magyar Szövetség–Pásztor  István- Alliance  of  Vojvodina  Hungarians"  in  the  AP   Vojvodina Assembly.

Biography

Pásztor István was born on 20 August 1956 in Novi Kneževac. 

Pásztor István has been a member of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians since its founding in 1995 and he has been its President since 2007. 

In the period  from 1992 to 2000, he was a councillor in the Municipal Assembly of Subotica, as well as a Federal MP in the Federal Parliament of the FRY in the 1996-2000 term of office; from 1999 to 2002, he was a member of the Provisional National Council of the Hungarian National Minority and the Executive Board President; from 2000 to 2008, he was the Provincial Secretary for Privatisation, Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, and in the period from 2008 to 2012, he was  the Provincial Secretary for Economy; he was the Vice- President of the Executive Council of AP Vojvodina, in two terms of office. After the 2012 elections, he was elected a deputy of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, based on the majority electoral system and he was elected the President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly. In the 2016 elections for deputies of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, he was re-elected a deputy, as well as the AP Vojvodina Assembly President, for the second time. 

Guided by the ethics of responsibility, holding a presidential position, he managed to preserve the dignity of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, to promote the political culture of dialogue and demonstrate the ability to respect different political views, to preserve the spirit of respect, equality and justice when it comes to all deputies in the AP Vojvodina Assembly. 

Pásztor István represents and takes care of the work of the AP Vojvodina Assembly in the best political tradition of consensual political culture and promotes the values of coexistence and intercultural policies, as a common good of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. He does that by constantly following the political principle that without institutional protection of the rights of persons belonging to national minorities, we cannot talk about strengthening the rule of law and consolidating democratic institutions. 

As the Assembly President, Pásztor István continued to develop his long-standing commitment to the issues of economic development of Vojvodina, through strengthening the policies of interregional partnership and cross-border cooperation, especially taking into account the needs of Vojvodina's local self-governments.
